On the occasion of this Federal Holiday, I thought this would be a proper day to remember landmark human/civil rights case of "Standing Bear vs. Crook, 1879" in which, among other things it was determined that a Native American "is a person."
I don't know if Chief Standing Bear was aware of the the implications of this trial but it seems to me that it was an affirmation that humans are born with inalienable rights.
